The RPCS3 team has announced that its Playstation 3 emulator, RPCS3, can now run Drakengard 3 with 60fps. As such, PC gamers can enjoy the game with a higher framerate and better visuals. This is why emulators are so important and this is why we are supporting them.

RPCS3 can run Drakengard 3 with 60fps thanks to a performance patch from Whatcookie. Moreover, it’s also possible to play the game at 120fps. However, this high framerate will break the lock-on feature when flying the dragon minor. Not only that, but it’s really difficult to hit 120fps in the current version of RPCS3 (without more optimizations or faster hardware).

In case you weren’t aware of, Drakengard 3 is an action RPG that came exclusively on PlayStation 3. It is the third game in the Drakengard series and a prequel to the original game. Drakengard 3 features a mixture of ground-based hack-and-slash combat and aerial battles. Players can also control a dragon named Mikhail.

Of course this isn’t the only game that features an unlocked framerate on RPCS3. Back in August, the Playstation 3 emulator was able to run Metal Gear Solid 4 with 60fps. • Download the patch.yml found here. To save the patch press ctrl+s on your keyboard or go file then save page.
• Place the patch file inside the root of your RPCS3 folder and ensure it’s named “patch.yml”
• Open RPCS3 and create a custom config for Drakengard 3 by right-clicking it in the gamelist and hitting configure
• Go to the advanced tab in the settings window and change “Vblank Frequency” to 120 for 60fps (recommended) and 240 if you want to try it with a 120 FPS cap.

Gameplay

It’s a hack and slash game and that takes up a considerable amount of the game. Other than that, its moving from one fight to another and exploring the world with areal combat scenes every now and again. The Look

With some downright beautiful visuals and world design and a fantastic amount of travelling so that you can see it all, I am somewhat reminded of the Devil May Cry 4 game with gives a similar air of traversal and uncertainty. You play a character on a quest to another location and must fight various battles and monsters along the way, there is a strange feeling of never knowing which door is going to lead to another battle. An enemy could be around the corner at any point and you have no idea because the world sees alive yet suspiciously quiet at all times. If it wasn’t for the music, you’d feel as though the world was empty.

A small detail that I appreciated is how covered in blood you get in combat. As the player is dressed all in white, it only makes sense so I’m glad that they thought to include it.

Music

Speaking of the music. Oh, my goodness, this has a soundtrack for the ages. Similar to the ethereal and intriguing exploration music you get from Nier, it engages you in the world and fills you with a bizarre sense of wonder. Then the combat kicks off and the score sets the scene in a way that I just can’t get over.

Story

Right, here’s the crazy bit of it all; the story. Set many years before the previous games, as a prequel, there are actually multiple timelines, called branches, that tell a few slightly different stories as things progress. There is a lot to this game and I’m sure that if you play it and actually pay attention from start to finish that you will have a grand old time and understand everything just fine.

The dialogue throughout this title is downright cheesy and I love it. No one talks like an actual person would and instead run around with anime style one liners and monologues around every corner. It’s pretty great.

This is a surprisingly good game with a lot to it. If you like a game that really doesn’t take itself too seriously then you very well should enjoy this one.
